BrauBeviale 2026: SACMI to present ELM, the integrated laser marking system for crown caps

Embedded Laser Marking lets manufacturers customize liners with unique QR codes, lot numbers, alphanumeric strings, logos, and graphics, integrating marking and quality control at rates as high as 2,500 caps per minute. Dateline: Nuremberg, from 10 to 12 November

The ELM (Embedded Laser Marking) system will be SACMI’s centerpiece at BrauBeviale 2026, to be held at the Nuremberg Exhibition Center from 10 to 12 November, at the inPhocal stand (Hall 7, Booth 7-275).
Developed to laser-customize crown cap liners, ELM merges marking and quality control directly into the production process, combining speed, precision and real-time verification of results: all on one system.

One-system marking and quality control

ELM is a complete hardware and software package. It consists of an inPhocal laser marker, a vision system and a dedicated cap conveyor belt.
This solution lets producers apply unique QR codes, lot identifiers, alphanumeric strings, logos, and graphics on the liner, delivering dynamic cap customization and exciting new prospects for product differentiation.
The software suite coordinates the various components and interconnects with SACMI’s PMC300 automation system, ensuring synchronized control of marking and quality control. Real-time verification of marking quality and code readability completes the process directly in-line.

High performance, ink-free

Depending on the complexity of the content to be applied, ELM can achieve laser marking and inspection rates of up to 2,500 caps per minute. The technology enables the dynamic creation of 10×10 mm QR codes, up to 15 alphanumeric characters, logos and graphics; it also maintains high standards of readability and quality, even at high speeds.
Marking occurs by way of a special laser-activated additive contained in the liner material. Consequently, the process requires no ink or other consumables and produces a clean, durable mark directly on the liner.
This approach simplifies the process and expands customization opportunities, allowing new content to be introduced without the need for additional printing steps.

Adding value to crown caps, also on existing lines

With ELM, SACMI brings customization directly to the cap liner, making it part of both the industrial process and quality control. Being able to apply different types of recognizable content lets manufacturers enhance products with premium personalized details, raising the perceived value of the cap and creating openings for differentiation.
ELM can be installed either as an option on a new PMC300 or retrofitted on recent models. This means laser marking can also be introduced on existing systems, broadening the opportunities available to customers.
