Flaminia, working with SACMI towards total circularity of water resources

Following the development of the casting department, the Civita Castellana company is improving its ultrafiltration wastewater treatment system. More than 7 thousand m³ of clean water and more than 50 tonnes of “noble” raw materials recycled in one year and completely re-used in the production process.

Full automation and total circularity. Further to its recent production boost, Ceramica Flaminia completes its project with SACMI to enhance the ultrafiltration water treatment system, increasing the total amount of clean water recovered from the casting plant from 25 to 60 m³ per day, together with 3 m³ of solid concentrate – equal to 1 ton per day of noble raw materials – all of which can be entirely re-used in the production process.

The first company to invest in SACMI WaterClean technology, Flaminia has completed - in the year since the first system started running in 2023 - recovery of more than 7 thousand m³ of clean water and more than 50 tons of solid matter. Among the various advantages offered by the system is the patented tangential filtration technology which, thanks to specially designed filter membranes, does not require any of the additional chemicals traditionally used in filtering and solid/liquid separating processes.

The second system supplied to Flaminia – operating alongside the first one and connected to the casting machine department – is the latest version with a further development by SACMI featuring a new centrifuge to improve performance even more, reaching 90-95% recovered water. Basically the centrifuge assists the initial separation of the coarser matter from the waste water, increasing the overall efficiency of the whole process. The result is the opportunity to reach the target of full circularity of the factory as regards the use of water resources.

This further innovation, like the rest of the system, does not require any chemicals (deflocculants, etc.) and fits Flaminia’s wider plan to increase productivity while optimizing use of resources with the aim of achieving a circular economy.  The enhancement of the water treatment system follows hot on the heels of the new SACMI RobotCasting AVB and ALV high pressure casting lines, recently started up for manufacture of high-quality design WCs and washbasins to be exported all over the world.
