Digital tableware decoration: Saturnia breaks new boundaries with SACMI technology

Following a year of production at full capacity, a second DHD printer is supplied for digital single-pass decoration of tableware items. An even better equipped and higher performance solution to enhance colour development and extend use to different applications, to widen Saturnia’s product range and make total customization possible.

A new revolution by SACMI : single-pass digital decoration of tableware items. Representing state-of-the art Italian quality since 1966, Porcellane Saturnia has taken on a new challenge installing, at the end of 2018,  the first DHD708 SACMI Digital printer specially set up for this brand new type of application.
Working at full capacity for more than a year to great customer satisfaction, the new machine has enabled Porcellane Saturnia to extend its range of products, cutting down the development time for new products, with a view to offering total customization. For this reason the company has now chosen a second DHD 708, which will be installed next to the previous one and served by all the same transfer systems to ensure simple and ergonomic handling operations.
Even better equipped than the previous supply, the new DHD is provided with 8 colour bars and Dimatix printheads with high ink discharge. The additional 2 bars (the previous solution had a total of 6 bars) have been configured for the application of special effects such as white and “sinking” glazes (the special vanadium oxide based inks which penetrate the glaze during firing giving particular textures to the surfaces).
Of particular importance is the upgrade of the solution which, thanks to the high ink discharge printheads, can be used, not just for the digital decoration of traditional flat or similar plates but, also, for items with a concave surface because of the increased inkjet.  A resolution of up to 1200 dpi and handling from 20 to 40 pieces per minute (according to the selected resolution) are the common features shared by the two DHD installed at Porcellane Saturnia which will allow the company to proceed to further define and diversify its range.
The great advantage of the SACMI solution is the ability to produce elegant decorations in small batches, with reduced times and costs. In this way the solution responds to the product pull logic which characterizes the strategy of the Viterbo-based manufacturer. Of the 15 million pieces per year installed production capacity, an ever larger proportion is represented by this new type of article decorated digitally. In fact Saturnia, together with its partner SACMI, is at the forefront leading the way towards new future prospects for digital tableware decoration.
