With SACMI RobotGlaze, GSI achieves complete automation of shower tray glazing and handling

Modernization of the dedicated line now completed. As of today, even articles as thick as 3 cm - now the most popular on the market - can be handled using automated systems, providing advantages in terms of efficiency and health & safety

SACMI has now enhanced the quality and design for which GSI (Gruppo Sanitari Italia) shower trays are renowned even further! These are items of considerable size and weight: the most modern, in-demand shower trays can be up to 3 cm thick.
Hence GSI’s decision – following an extensive partnership with SACMI for the implementation of advanced casting-glazing solutions - to push ahead with automation on its shower tray glazing line using SACMI-Gaiotto handling robots. In this new configuration, the robot picks the shower tray from the cars, separates it from the support and delivers it to the check station, where the worker performs an initial manual inspection.
Afterwards, the same robot picks the piece again and transfers it to the 4-position glazing carousel; SACMI has equipped the latter with an upgraded software package that lets the manufacturer interface operations with the factory supervisor, thus allowing 4.0 production management.
One of the advantages of robot-controlled picking is that it lets producers handle - thanks to a specially designed suction cup system - trays as thick as 3 cm, highly fragile items that could, with manual handling, be broken or damaged. Robotic control also means workers no longer have to perform the most tiring, repetitive tasks of handling such heavy articles.
In addition to strengthening an already solid business partnership, this latest order demonstrates SACMI's ability to help customers adopt automation, improving existing systems by installing customized solutions that do not, as in this case, upend the handling systems or plant layout.
Completed in early 2022, the upgraded shower tray glazing-handling line is now fully operational at the plant in Gallese (Vt), the company’s manufacturing heart and a symbol of Made-in-Italy creativity and quality in the sanitaryware field.
