AKIJ Ceramic Bangladesh successfully starts up sanitaryware plant with Sacmi

On the occasion of the DHAKA Ceramics fair held in Bangladesh at the end of November 2017, AKIJ Ceramics presented the first sanitaryware lines to exit its new Gazipur plant.

This 2-stage project hinges on a decades-long ceramic-making partnership between the AKIJ Group and SACMI. Phase one of the plant will manufacture 250,000 sanitaryware articles per year, with phase two boosting that number to 1.2 million.

Sacmi designed the plant and supplied the main production line machines, which cover everything from body preparation to firing: more specifically, these include all the traditional casting benches produced by Sacmi Istanbul Turkey, the mould and piece dryers, a Gaiotto Automation-supplied robotized glazing carousel and a Riedhammer HWS 12/500/190 PF shuttle kiln with an effective volume of 114 m3.

Founded in the late 1940s, the AKIJ Group has over 32,000 employees in various industries. Its ceramic operations have a daily output capacity of some 46,000 m2.
