Sacmi donates a new MRI unit to Imola’s local health authority

On the occasion of its 90th anniversary, SACMI has donated a new magnetic resonance unit to Imola’s Local Health Authority.

This MRI unit comes with a multi-parameter monitor, anaesthesia equipment and  contrast medium injector. Moreover, its installation also involves upgrading of the Faraday cage and modernisation of dedicated facilities and systems.

Once again the Sacmi cooperative has sought to celebrate an anniversary with an act intended to benefit everyone within the local community.

Over the years, in fact, there has been a steady expansion of donations made by the cooperative, headed by CEO Domenico Olivieri, to the local health authority – and that has meant improvements in healthcare for all the town’s citizens.

Such donations include the first MRI unit – still in use at the hospital – given by Sacmi in 1996, the digitalisation of two diagnostic X-ray units and the purchase of new X-ray devices (2002); then there was the complete set-up of the hospital’s 7th operating theatre (2007) and, just a few months ago, participation in a consortium of local companies that provided new diagnostic imaging equipment for the Accident and Emergency department, CAT scanner included.

The new MRI unit will be installed at Imola’s Santa Maria della Scaletta Hospital in the 2nd floor X-ray department.

The task of dismantling and refurbishing the department so it is ready to house the new MRI unit will last 6 weeks and shall begin on 28th September, the day on which the existing MRI equipment will definitively be shut down.

Nevertheless the Local Health Authority shall continue to provide MRI services during the interim period as it has arranged for the rental of a mobile unit (the same type as the one being assembled), to be set-up near the old A&E department.
