Christmas solidarity: Sacmi for Paraguay

Medical equipment including a portable X-ray system, an ultrasound scan unit, fabric autoclaves, tomography units, steel beds and gurneys: this year’s Sacmi’s Christmas donation is headed for Asuncion in Paraguay, to the parish of San Rafael. Here, a group of Italian missionaries, including Don Paolo Buscaroli of Imola, has, for several years now, been overseeing projects for the poor and marginalised.
The Sacmi Group’s donation of 50 thousand Euros will allow the purchase of medical equipment for the “Casa Divina Providencia San Riccardo Pampuri” clinic and so improve the health service offered to local people.
The missionary fathers of Fraternità San Carlo Borromeo, in fact, work together with the doctors and volunteers in this small clinic, which treats very poor or abandoned terminally ill patients who would otherwise die without any assistance. Each patient costs the clinic 6 thousand Euros a month; funding comes from private and public donations via Asvi, a non-government, non-profit foundation established in 1972 in Forlì-Cesena that is involved in about 100 development projects in 35 different countries. Sacmi has decided to contribute to the purchase of medical equipment to raise the standard of treatment and make the patient’s living conditions more humane.
