Completed through PROTESA, this operation builds on a long-standing partnership. The goal is to expand the product portfolio through further integration of know-how, resources and facilities while leveraging ST Powertrain’s expert knowledge and uniqueness. For 15 years, the Maranello-based company has led the way in failure analysis, testing, and quality control services for the premium automotive sector and other specialized industries.
SACMI has acquired an 80% stake in ST Powertrain, a Maranello-based company specializing in failure analysis, testing and quality control services. Executed via PROTESA - a SACMI Group company that provides industry with technological and engineering services - this transaction is a huge leap forward for ST Powertrain, allowing it to benefit from the resources, expertise and stability of a major industrial group like SACMI.
The acquisition is a natural follow-on from a partnership that began in 2015 and has been progressively strengthened through joint projects, mutual investments and the sharing of expertise and technology, a process that has accelerated sharply in recent years.
Founded in the heart of Italy’s ‘Motor Valley’, ST Powertrain grew alongside key players in the premium automotive sector and gradually extended its reach into several other specialized technological fields, such as the railway, marine, agribusiness and light mechanical engineering sectors. Its services range from failure analysis – which aims to find the root causes of malfunctions and anomalies - to testing and quality control for mechanical components and systems. Other services include the assembly and overhaul of prototypes, engine and transmission testing, and the design of specialized equipment.
“Over the last fifteen years, our growth has been fueled by technical proficiency, flexibility, rapid response times, and the utmost discretion in our dealings with clients”, points out Tommaso Scala of ST Powertrain. “Those values will continue to guide our work. Embedding our specialized capabilities into an industrial group with the scale and stability of SACMI will allow us to expand our solutions portfolio, access new engineering and technological resources, support more ambitious investments and take on increasingly complex projects”. The core mission of ST Powertrain remains unchanged: it centers on ultra-specialized skills and services, strictly confidential management of individual projects, and a flexibility of response that allows it to “achieve what others cannot”.
Ensuring the continuity of this operational approach was a key element of the transaction. Under the new corporate structure, Tommaso Scala retains his role as Technical Manager and continues to support the sales division, ensuring uninterrupted customer relations. He’ll also be working alongside SACMI’s technical staff, the immediate goal being to strengthen teamwork in order to manage individual projects effectively.
“This transaction sharpens an industrial vision we’ve shared for years: a vision built on highly specialized solutions, continuous innovation, and the development of solid, lasting partnerships with customers”, states Paolo Mongardi, President of SACMI. “ST Powertrain’s addition to our Group consolidates this approach by leveraging the distinctive skills of an international industrial group that has the stability and investment capacity to support long-term growth and tackle increasingly ambitious technological challenges”.
This union also harnesses the complementarity between the expertise of ST Powertrain and that of PROTESA - the SACMI company that handled the transaction - in the fields of design, reverse engineering, metrology and quality control. “This integration will allow us to systematize the teamwork that already exists on numerous projects”, adds Emanuele Vassallo, General Manager of PROTESA. “By combining ST Powertrain’s specialized analysis, testing, and quality control expertise with our own resources in various fields, we aim to build an increasingly broad, structured service offering”.
Joining the SACMI Group marks a new stage of development for ST Powertrain. The goal is now to reinforce its ability to anticipate technological challenges and help customers innovate while preserving the individuality and market strategy that have fueled its growth over the years.
