This donation of approximately € 300,000 will be used to open an advanced facility at the Imola town hospital: an all-new, seventh operating theatre for laparoscopy operations. This “gift” to the local health authority is a key part of celebrations marking the 85th anniversary of the founding of the Sacmi Imola Cooperative, celebrations that officially began with the visit of the President of the Italian House of Commons, Pierferdinando Casini. “This donation”, points out, Ivan Trenti, Chief Administrator of the local health authority, “is a fantastic gift to the town of Imola. It provides a much-needed boost to our capacity to perform laparoscopy, an effective non-invasive surgical technique for which demand is growing. Thanks to this new theatre we’ll be able to add about 2000 extra laparoscopy hours per year, cutting waiting lists drastically”. Laparoscopy operations, because they use a precision “keyhole” technique, generally utilise equipment and theatre for over 5 hours; thanks to this new Sacmi-financed theatre we can now boost output by some 50 hours per week.
