Gaiotto presents the new industrial robot ‘training cell’

A special environment dedicated to development, testing and training that integrates digital simulation and real-world robot trials to optimize applications and transfer new skills to technicians and customers.

Gaiotto expands its development and training capabilities with a new experimental cell focusing on industrial robotics: a protected area in which to fine-tune new solutions, develop software, conduct tests and experiments and, above all, provide customers with a structured training and skills development service for robotic applications.

The cell aims to make the transition between digital design and real-world applications increasingly effective. This Gaiotto-developed method combines offline programming, digital twins and artificial vision to make robot programming more efficient, flexible and less dependent on the availability of the physical machine.

The process involves three steps. Firstly, the robot program is prepared and simulated in a virtual environment via the digital twin. Secondly, it is transferred to the training cell to verify movements and trajectories (also without contact with the piece). Thirdly, it is run under real-world conditions to ensure outcomes meet the required quality and compliance standards.
Simulation and real-world tests can thus proceed in parallel, allowing continuous comparison of the digital model's behavior with actual on-piece performance and faster process optimization.

How it works

The cell includes a piece handling and alignment zone with a vision system, a zone for white finishing, a glazing area featuring Gaiotto robots and glaze delivery control systems, plus a filtration system serving the various workstations.
One of the key features is that this set-up can also be used beyond the individual applications currently present in the training cell. The method, in fact, takes a cross-application approach that can be extended to other processes and robots with different functions and programming languages.

A new customer service

One of the key purposes of the new training cell is direct support for customer skill development. Training can be organized for both internal staff and customers’ technicians, also as part of joint development projects. Completing the infrastructure are two training rooms: these allow for a combination of theoretical lessons and practical hands-on training.

The goal? To streamline the transfer of skills and help customers get the most from advanced tools and methods for programming, testing and managing robotic applications: a package that combines technological development with structured training and teamwork, encouraging the introduction of greater automation in industrial processes.

The cell is an offshoot of the Gaiotto-developed STAPRI (Development of Advanced Industrial Robot Programming Techniques) project, which is co-funded by the Emilia-Romagna Region investment stimulus tender.
