PANO: a PVC-free revolution with SACMI PMA

PANO: a PVC-free revolution with SACMI PMA

A clean, compact, efficient, easy-to-manage machine and, in parallel, technology that’s already compliant with regulatory developments regarding PVC-free gaskets: this is SACMI PMA, a solution successfully adopted for years by Pano Verschluss GmbH, a leading German maker of metal closures. With five PMA machines now installed, PANO has extensive experience in the production of PVC-free annular liners, with tangible results in terms of liner quality, packaging safety, cleanliness and process reliability. Thomas Stock, Managing Director of Pano Verschluss GmbH, tells the story.

Staying ahead of standards with safe, high-quality, reliable solutions

Interview with Thomas Stock, Managing Director of Pano Verschluss GmbH

PANO installed PMA machines when PVC-free was not yet a major regulatory topic. This forward-thinking decision was based on specific industrial needs: we needed to ensure liner quality, packaging safety, process cleanliness and reliability. Now, that choice allows us to take PVC-free liner development to the next level with a technology that’s been tried and tested in production: a technology that offers major advantages in terms of process efficiency, product quality and safety.

A market-recognized solution
The experience gained with SACMI PMA technology has allowed PANO to consolidate an already-strong market position. On the German market, where PVC-free use has become widespread, we’ve set the standard for this type of application, which continues to win over customers: a result built in the field, in close collaboration with our partners.

Compact and efficient
PVC-free annular liners deliver real value that extends throughout the supply chain: from the supplier of the PVC-free compound to the technology partner, SACMI (which supplies the PMA machines), to the filler customers who verify real-world performance and gather daily feedback from end consumers. For the manufacturer, one of the first tangible advantages of the PMA system is its compactness. The small footprint streamlines integration into the plant layout and allows efficient use of space, without compromising performance. This makes PMA technology particularly suitable for both new installations and integration into existing production layouts.

A clean, fully electric process without curing ovens
PMA technology uses a dry, fully electric lining process without curing ovens. This lowers energy consumption, eliminates sources of contamination and ensures a cleaner, healthier workplace. For PANO, these aspects are integral parts of food packaging quality and key competitiveness factors.

Simplified control and maintenance
Another much-appreciated PMA feature is its operational simplicity. The machines require few operators and allow immediate process control. This streamlines daily workflows and lets workers focus on higher-added-value tasks. Another benefit of the PMA philosophy is easier maintenance. The tools and molds area is tidy, clean and readily accessible. This set-up reduces task times and helps ensure continuity of production.

Consistent quality with SACMI CVS
A stable process and advanced process controls ensure excellent liner quality.
The SACMI CVS vision system - integrated into the PMA machine - enables continuous, accurate inspection of output. Easy adjustment and immediate process feedback ensure consistent, repeatable quality.

A mature, reliable technology
In our experience, PMA technology has proven to be a mature and sound industrial solution, the best on today’s market. This farsighted decision now allows us to face future industry scenarios with just the right tools.
