Pelliconi cuts the ribbon for its “gate to the Orient”: Sacmi attends as guest of honour

The “China Project” launched by Pelliconi, a multinational that manufactures no less than 30 billion caps and closures for bottles and containers every year, has crossed the finishing line! On 1st November they celebrated its official opening together with top managers from the Group (based in Ozzano dell'Emilia, Bologna, Italy) - Maria Teresa Pelliconi, President Franco Gnudi and CEO Marco Checchi – and local authorities and numerous customers.
Pride of place on the guest list went to Sacmi, which has supplied Pelliconi with all the equipment needed to establish this new, complete metal cap production line. This order puts the seal on a decades-long partnership that has, over time, seen a mutually beneficial exchange of the technologies, solutions and know-how used to produce closures for the beverage industry, an industry in which the two companies are the clear-cut leaders..
Already the supplier of the machine that makes and applies liners on aluminium caps, Sacmi leapt at the chance presented by Pelliconi’s business growth in China, where the company has three complete production lines serving the local production facilities of big-name beverage players such as Carlsberg; hence the opportunity to provide the Bologna-based Group with a complete line for the production of modern Maxi P-26 standard closures (covering everything from cap to liner and application of the practical ergonomic ring).
With the opening of the new facility in Suzhou, the Pelliconi Group now has five production plants located across several continents: it also has two Italian offices, branches in Egypt and the United States plus the latest one in Suzhou, in the province of Jiangsu, near Shanghai.
At the all-new Pelliconi Suzhou Closures Manufacturing plant – which covers 8,000 m2 and has 60 employees - the complete Sacmi line will have an output of 1200 caps/minute per line (3 lines in total) and is equipped with all the latest devices to ensure maximum process integration, from the vertical press (in which metal sheets are turned into caps) to the PMV (the renowned Sacmi lining machine) and the RCM machine which moulds and applies the plastic ring with tab; the ring allows customised colour and decoration, a potential that extends to the cap itself; it is made of an organoleptically neutral material that is ideal for beer, soft and energy drinks.
The investment in Suzhou - valued at approximately 11 million euro - is just the first step, explained the Pelliconi Group’s CEO, Marco Checchi, "of an overall strategy to consolidate and improve the Group's positioning in South-East Asia", an extremely dynamic market that once again sees Sacmi and Pelliconi as allies, exporting the best ‘Made in Italy’ technology and quality worldwide.
